How to choose a filtration method? [Basic knowledge]

Is the optimal method different for river water and well water? An explanation of how to choose a filtration system.

■What types of filtration methods are there? There are various types of filtration methods, including coagulation sedimentation, coagulation filtration, activated carbon filtration, sand filtration, iron and manganese removal filtration, and fiber filtration. We can propose the optimal equipment according to the raw water supplied (river water, well water, industrial water, tap water, etc.) and the required water quality. ■Why change the method depending on the raw water? Generally, river water tends to contain a lot of turbidity (suspended solids), making coagulation sedimentation and coagulation filtration suitable. Well water, influenced by underground components, tends to contain iron and manganese, making iron and manganese removal filtration appropriate. Activated carbon filtration primarily removes chlorine and organic matter, while sand filtration mainly removes turbidity. ■How does a soft water system differ from filtration? A soft water system uses ion exchange resin to replace hardness components (calcium ions, magnesium ions) in water with sodium ions, producing soft water. Its main role is to serve as a pretreatment facility for boiler water and pure water systems. ■Why is pretreatment necessary? If hardness components are not removed beforehand, they can cause scaling issues in boilers and place unnecessary strain on subsequent treatments in pure water systems.
